Bristol Zoo Gardens
The Hide

About
The Hide at Bristol Zoo Gardens is a unique dining and event destination that seamlessly blends relaxation, technology, and hospitality. Inspired by the natural textures and patterns of the animal kingdom, the space offers guests an immersive connection to the zoo and its diverse inhabitants. A bespoke central “hide” structure mimics traditional wildlife observation shelters, surrounded by four distinctive zones that each evoke a different habitat from the zoo.

Challenge
The project needed to create a contemporary, engaging space that would feel both fresh and authentic within the context of the zoo’s rich heritage. The design had to respect and complement the zoo’s iconic art deco architecture while delivering a memorable experience that could function as both a dining venue and an educational environment celebrating wildlife.

Solution
Drawing on the power of storytelling, the name was inspired by the way animals are observed in the wild – from a Hide. The identity was designed to echo both the site’s historic architecture and the physical form of an observation hide. At its heart, the central structure creates a tactile, intimate focal point that encourages exploration and discovery.

Brand typography subtly incorporates viewing apertures, referencing observation shelters and reinforcing a sense of curiosity and connection. The resulting space offers a seamless blend of contemporary hospitality and rich historical narrative – an experience that invites guests to dine, learn, and feel closer to nature.
